What’s your dog’s name, breed (or mix), and age—and how did they join the family?

Max The Dog, Golden Retriever. I was only 18 years old driving around, looking for a Chipotle in the middle of nowhere farmlands and saw a sign that said “Puppies in the barn”. Since I couldn’t find a burrito, I decided to go look at the pups! My mother said “absolutely not!”; but, the battle was over before it even started… Max The Dog was already in the back yard chewing on sticks and Mom fell in love as soon as he wagged his tail at her! The rest is history.

How did your dog get their name?

Well he was originally named Pancake (because he would lay flat like a pancake); but, my older brothers so kindly pointed out how bad of a name that was. I felt called to “Max”, but had a good (human) friend also named Max. So in order to differentiate, I added “The Dog” and “The Human” to each of their names! Fun Fact: Since Max The Dog is registered with the AKC, he *technically* has an even more official name - - “Sir JohnMorgan’s Max A Lot The First”.

Describe a typical office day for Max.

SPRINT inside full speed. ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM to Kaoma’s office, crash into Donna’s desk, then tear through the kitchen and bullpen knocking things over with a toy in my mouth and barking the words “henlo peepul I am heppi and here for u 2 pat my belly pleez luk at me”. After 30 minutes of making rounds, a quick trip to the kitchen for some snacks and water, then casual office meandering throughout the day while Dad works between the different Hiviz buildings and many meetings he has.

Favorite office snack or treat (and is there anything they’re not allowed to have)?

The only thing that is less judgmental of what it’ll ingest is a Dyson vaccum. Max The Dog gleefully eats absolutely anything that he is told he is allowed to have. Fruit - Meat - Vegetables - Dog Food - Cat Food - Human Food - Stuff That Isn’t Food - whatever. If you give it to him, he’ll try!

What is the most ridiculous thing your dog does, at home, at the office, or when they meet someone new?

Will hold 2 or 3 toys in his mouth, run up, lay down on his back with his belly in the air, and loudly (albeit muffled because of the toys) SCREAM how excited he is to see the person.

One thing every coworker should know about Max before they visit.

Introductions to any other dog needs to be done with careful and intentional regard and with JohnMorgan’s direct involvement. There is only *one* chance for Max to be introduced on ‘good grounds’ with other dogs. If not done correctly, he will not get along with the other K9.
